A dear friend has got into Gouvia today. One of his gear shift cables has snapped. Lagoon 380.

He is not DIY minded - any recomendation of where he can get the cable and who is trustworthy to fit it.

He needs it done quick as he is on passage to Venice and up against the clock a bit (I know......)

I have suggested that he may be best replacing them all "just in case". Boat is 11 years old and engines have done 1000 hours.

It is the port side engine so 8m cables are requires.

The stbd needs 9.5m.

Any suggestions?

Peter, who runs Boatsmans World, will source the cable, if it's not in stock. He will also be able to recommend a fitter. Shop is just before the road into Gouvia: as you come out of the marina, turn right and thats his shop. Alternatively, ask the marina office. Be aware that any work in the marina has to be done either by the boat owner/skipper or an 'approved' contractor: the marina adds a charge to the labour element of the contractors bill, so it doesn't matter who you ask to arrange the work, you still end up paying a premium for having the work done in Gouvia.
