Thinking of spending a few nights at Tiree this summer. What's anchorage like in Gott Bay (where I want to be)?
Are any of the moorings near the Ferry Wharf public ones?
Is the bottom all sand as the beach suggests? (32ft, draw about 6')

I've discussed with locals I know with regard to visiting them some time.

Basic message I got was that there is no really safe sheltered anchorage. The anchorage is fine in the right conditions, but pick a suitable weather window, go there, and leave before the weather deterioates.

Absolutely agree with JCP. It really is only an anchorage in very settled weather and yes its all sand. In fact Tiree is devoid of any good sheltered anchorages. Much better to visit on a good day but anchor or pick up a mooring in Coll.

having spent a couple of years living there on and off, I too have a great wish to go there for an overnight

When the wind is in the west it is certainly quite sheltered but anything like an onshore wind leaves it pretty rough - very exposed to the south if I remember

Next to the pub though....
