Does anyone have any advice on the best sources of information in English (Books/Web) about the Gothenburg-Marstand-Oslo Fjord area ? I've just come back from a business trip to Gothenburg where the weather this week has been glorious and am wondering whether and how to get our boat up there next summer - perhaps taking a week in May and then maybe three weeks in July/August. Swedish and Norwegian colleagues rate it very highly as a cruising area and having overflown it a couple of times this week I want to find out more. Has anyone done the same sort of thing ?

Not having done this trip, but have sailed in the area quite a lot. It's a fantastic cruising ground! Summer is mostly good up there. Do not return to late as IMHO the summer is over in southern norway by mid-august.... (though I stand to be corrected by the locals...).

Just spent the weekend at Marstrand 30deg and no wind ,had to motor back to Gothenburg. The participants in the Annual round Tjorn race yesterday will vouch for the no wind bit -out of about 650 starters only 12 managed to finish before the officials closed the finish at sun down.If you want any info on this area ,you are welcome to contact me.

Miles , as you have no more replies I will find a freebie (but very good) publication from swedish cruising association which lists all (or most )official guest harbours in sweden with a good description of each ,this is unfortunately in swedish ,but with a basic translation of most phrases I am sure this will be enough to get you interested in the Swedish west coast . there are an awful lot of harbours (mainly small ,and deep) in this area . The norwegian coast is not so good as the norwegians have made much of there coast line private property with the result that there is a terrific influx of norwegians into this area in summer.if you send me a message /address to send it to. I shall be in Uk from next weekend for about a month (watford ).
