Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

It's not very official looking. I know its early days yet, but has anyone any experience of how it goes down with the more picky national authorities? Will they know it is a license?

I suppose HMG have e-mailed all the other folks letting them know that we don't need an up to date tax disk anymore?

My current licence expires in May. Does the new one get sent to you automatically or do you need to apply?

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

Mine expires Feb and the new one just came without me doing anything.

By the way, on closer reading, they have left off some items of kit which were on the earlier one.

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

Mine arrived yesterday (automatically) wondered what it was at first. You're right though, it doesn't look very official.

And they've added stuff to mine - I thought they'd just given me one of everything to cut down on paperwork if i add anything??? Maybe it's yours Shmoo, I'll send you my address so you can forward the gear on!!

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

As I understand it - UK was literally only place that had the disk ... if you remember correctly - the licence stated clearly that the Paper Document must be on board ...

Meaning IMHO that the disc was just an easy way to show you had paid. It is NOT same as a Tax disc on a car.

I have mine out here in Latvia ... now you can't get more mickey-mouse than some out here ... no problem. In fact I've reduced mine in a scan and laminated it for sticking by VHF.

I actually didn't receive mine in time they reckoned it would come ... so called - they e-mailed the PDF entire licence doc to me ... I printed of and about 2 weeks later received their print in the post. Nick (OFCOM guy I know) told me that the PDF file they sent me was same file they use to print ...

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

Mine arrives yesterday too. I was slightly sad that I dont have a licence disc to display anymore. Then I realised the saving is probably enough to cover my increase in boat fuel this year (Sorry motor boaters /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

Received mine yesterday, and guess what ??, they also left an item off, the mmsi number for my handheld dsc, but it was listed on the back page...

Hope its not a ploy to get you to part with some cash when you have to send the form back to get it amended....

Re: Got my new \'vaild forever\' ship licence: radio still works

Mine also expired February, and the new one turned up on Wednesday, so I suppose they have just sent out all of Feruary's licences.
I had in fact registered on the website, intending to renew that way, and my username came by post today.

[/ QUOTE ] Keep the letter giving you your user name (but if it's like mine I can work out what it is from your full name) and a record of your password as you will be able to add any equipment or register any other changes (address for example) via the website, or apply for a portable (T-number) licence or a licence for a new boat or apply for any of the other licences that are issued on-line. If you logon you should find your new licence is listed there.

You would not have been able to renew your old licence anyway as under the new scheme as they are everlasting so there is no facility needed to renew them! Until the new scheme came in there was a separate facility on the main part of Ofcom's website to renew the old ones though. It may still be there for the benefit of those who failed to renew their licences before 1 Oct 06. If it is then it'll cost £20 to do so.

It will get sent to you automatically - just tun up in the post.

However, you have to "up-date" your info "on-line" every so often - don't/can't remember the frequency.

Peter.

[/ QUOTE ] From the Ofcom website [ QUOTE ]
There is no end date on the "lifetime" ship radio licence but Ofcom will revoke the licence unless the licence is either amended or validated at least once every 10 years

[/ QUOTE ] Nothing on the website to say if they will expect you to do that automatically or if they will send a reminder. If reminders are to be sent then it will probably be by email so it could be important to update the record of any changes in email address. Doing that though should count as an amendment and so satisfy the above requirement anyway.
