Gosport Service - just a thought.....

I went to my favourite eatery in Gosport on Saturday, now I know it was hot and I know it was packed due to its waterfront location, but, the service was appalling. There was a long wait for food (which I could understand), the wine was warm (which I could sort of understand) but there was no excuse for the rude attitude of staff, no matter how hassled or busy they were.

I went to order food at 9.30pm to be told that there was a 45 minute wait, I said that's fine I will wait - the response came "but we stop serving at 10.00". After my (very restrained I thought) response they decided to serve me! I must say that when the food came it was up to the normal high standard.

We are normally expected to pay service charge - how about when eateries are going to be busy they advertise "tonight we know service won't be up to much so we will give you a 10% non service discount" - just a thought /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It was the lightship in Haslar. I normally rate it very highly and it, together with Landers, are the only two places I would consider eating in Gosport (other than the curry house). The food is good but after my last experience I shall be avoiding it on a busy night. If you know of anywhere else worth going to in the area please let me know.

Can't remember the name of the pub but I had a reasonable meal there a few months ago.

Go to the top of the exit ramp off pier K ( i.e. not main entrance ). Turn right and follow Millenium Walk past the Gosport Ferry along the High Street. First pub on the right. Think it is called The Castle ( may be totally wrong ! ).

Bobgosling is right it is "The Castle" good pub food, large portions.

Not a good weekend to be going to the Lightship especially with half the crews (and hangers on)from Global Challenge around. But I do agree when it is hassle free it is very good and Landers is superb.

Me, I went to the Magna (curry house) no waiting, good food and no hassle from the staff.

If you ever need a good breakfast in Gosport try the toasty bar..

We were in the lightship on two nights the weekend before and the staff certainly did seem under pressure - I just don't think that the kitchen is big enough to cope with more than a certain number of simultaneous orders. They were pleasant though and I did see them accomodate some late arrivals with a limited menu. I believe they are also awaiting the arrival of a new manager.

Oh dear. I just read the previous post and the place does seem to have gone downhill a bit since I went there. Such a shame. Maybe we could presuade Gordon Ramsey to visit it in return for a day out sailing ?

A great idea! The Castle certainly needs help, urgently! Mrs Jones from the school canteen could do a better job than they are!
