Hi, I have been reading your posts on places to eat and drink in Gosport. I am the new owner of the George & Dragon in Gosport. We are totally refurbished we have a fantastic reasonably priced menu, including an additional tapas style menu. Not got time to wait? Preorder your food and eat in or collect to take away. We offer good wine, real ales as well as the usual. We are family friendly and have 'grown up style' live music at weekends. I would welcome any of you to come and try us out on your next visit to Gosport you really will not be dissapointed!;) Hope to see you soon Tracie x x

Welcome to the forums Tracie.
Congratulations on taking over the George and Dragon and good luck.
Quick question: Where is the George and Dragon?
How about an incentive to lure us in? i.e. Mention YBW and get a free desert etc.
Second question: Are you dog friendly?

Hi ,

We are situated at the entrance to Haslar Road. We are most certainly dog friendly! I am happy to offer a 5% discount to all marina visitors. I am working on some discount cards so they should arive in the near future. Please just mention ybw.com and the staff will be happy to discount all your meals eaten in. We also have a new takeaway snack menu which is well worth a try.

Hope to see you soon.

Tracie

Hello and welcome Tracie.

Nothing wrong with blowing your own trumpet on here. Good on ya.

Came past the G & D last week and noticed all the changes. Was a bit reluctant to enter
as previous experience of plastic glasses & **** beer/ale had put me right off.

I hope you do manage to build up a good name as an eatery and ale house.
Certainly wouldn't go amiss in Gosport.

Will be paying you a visit sooooooooooooooooooooooooooon

Haslar lightship

Berthed in Haslar yesterday afternoon and ordered an early supper before two parties and disco took over the place. Am no gormet eater whether on or off the boat, but tinned peas?

More disconcerting was seeing the barman pouring more champagne down the throuts of an already paralytic quartet whose loud obscenities echoed throughout the place.

Even worse, the wash from passing ferries made sleep impossible and I left at 0200. NOT a good experience!

For info: The G & D has not been open since Xmas. I understand that the OP has gone bankrupt. The Licensing trade are having it tough everywhere but i think this venture was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

With Wetherspoons in the High Street it must be difficult for any other Gosport pub to survive.

That is so true, what with the 'cheap' food being served there and by cheap I mean price and quality...

I don't think the food in there is any worse than any other pubs in Gosport, the standard isnt very high. However I'd say the steak I had in Wetherspoons was better than the one I had one night in Landers and a fraction of the price.

Well, I will say this about Gosport Wetherspoons. The last few times I have been in there they have had the Oakleaf Brewery's (the micro brewery situated just round the corner) Hole Hearted ale on tap, so hopefully it is a regular beer.

It's the house beer at my club and if properly kept is, for me, the best ale ever (though Marston's Old Empire is an extremely close contender).
