How safe is to keep the boat at the Gosport swinging moorings in the winter, any one had problems?
They are professionally laid moorings and I think regularly inspected, still we had few bad storms recently....

The key question is will your insurer be OK with it? It can mean choosing a dearer policy.
I've kept boats in Portsmouth harbour through a lot of winters, but I am around to check everything before and after every big blow.
That said , I worry more when the boats on land.

I know 2 people with boats on those moorings, and neither have ever had any problems, other than possibly theft-related (don't leave things in the cockpit).

The guys at the boatyard go round and check all their moorings and boats if there has been any bad weather, and you can always give them a call and ask them to check on your boat.

GJW charge me the same premium for the boat being afloat (but not in commission) in Brittany for 12 months of the year, afloat on a GBY mooring for 12 months of the year or afloat at GBY for 7 months, ashore for 5.

But see note from them below:

“If it is on a swing mooring in the winter period we would increase the excess to £350 for period 1st November to 31st March”

Not of a “friend of a friend” story / Iheard that one guy suggested that he had an outboard and some cushions stolen. Outboard I understand ... as I say, rumour not fact.

To my certain knowledge Binic has key-access security gates and cameras, St Cast has code access gates, Plouer- sur- Rance now has security cameras and even a backwater like Pontrieux had a boat broken into ... embarrassingly whilst we were tied alongside :nonchalance:

Perhaps they’re all protecting themselves from hordes of English looters

All sounds good, we use to keep other boat there twenty years ago and had only good experiences, looks like they still doing good work, glad to hear.
Hopefully insurance won't mind as they moorings are professionally laid.
