Gordon had a distinguished career in many fields he was the senior officer of the Royal Naval Reserve and played an important role during the Falklands conflict where he commandeered and set up the fleet of auxiliary vessels providing the vital chain to that area.

He was a noted yachtsman’s particularly active with the ocean racing fraternity taking part in 14 fastnet races, his professional activities included, Trinity House Pilotage in Thames, Medway and North sea. As Master Mariner, he was a Freeman of the City of London a President of the Nautical Institute.

I have lost a dear friend the Thames has lost a wonderful advocate

I knew him.. sailed together.

You forgot to mention he was Commodore of the RTYC for a while…

Do you know any details about the funeral

Not only Commodore but also a Trustee but where does one stop relating stories about him. I didn't mention he signed off the Thames Barrier that he had been Deputy Chairman of the PLA. He was a personal pal of the Duke of Edinburgh, he'd soloed the Atlantic in his 70s. Where does it end?
