Hi all,
I know there is a big following of goPros on here, so what I would like to know is what accessories / mounts have people bought, and what are must have items & waste of time items?
Apparently a spare battery is a must so what else do I need ? Handle bar / pole clamp ? Suction cup ? Extendable pole ? Float ? Silicone tabs ?
And last but not least have you all bought gen gopro mounts ? Or are the ones listed on amazon ( a lot cheaper ) good safe and secure so worth buying ?

Cheers guys and garls !

My must haves...suction pad, head and chest straps, anti fog tabs. Intend to gets...Go_pole and hand grip. There's also a flexible grip available on Amazon which looks quite handy but not sure if it would have a wide enough grip for the guard rail.

I have this
http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/jaws-flex-clamp
Perfect for handrails, handles and general gripping...
Use it all over the boat and it grips really well...makes it really easy to move the camera around.
Sucker grip is also good as is the chesty for swimming....

The bigger batter pack is essential .....$49 in the usa
grip thing and handlebar good.
spare nuts essential.......have now lost 5 in the dwr!

small (but fairly boring ) film made last week to test the grip!

Thanks for that guys, Lisa do you actually use the chesty and head strap ? I can pos think I might use a chesty when playing on tender / rib but can't see me ever having one strapped to me head !!! But also think a suction mount to centre console facing forward would do the same job.

Also what do you lot make of the extra battery's and chargers on the bay ? Are they cheap Chinese **** and should buy go pro only or are they good stuff & all come from same factory just with out the mark up ?!

I've just ordered the head strap with the extra clip (to allow you to attach to hats etc...see on amazon). Apparently the design has been improved to make it sturdier. I will use it for sure when on the tender (i want the camera to see what I see so in this respect I think the head strap is less limiting than the Chesty). I also want to do my PADI open water so will use it for that. It just depends Frank what you want to use it for. You're right in that if you want to use it purely for boating, then the suction pad will probably cover it all tbh.

GoPro? I bought one a year ago, tried it a couple of times in my boats and the quality of the pictures, (not the sound) were better than I expected. But, the software, the manuals, the camera and the different attachments were all really bad. So bad I didn´t even want to give it away, I just left it somewhere... The GoPro was a fulltime job to get working... there must be much better cameras of that type around..??

On the latest models you press the button on the front to turn it on and the button on the top to record.

Probably the lack of the non-existent manual confused you.

Just about everything confused me. First I had to reload something from the net to get the thing updated, then I downloaded software for the iPad as a remote. Nothing really worked as it should. The portable remote was not reliable and I had to check carefully that it was recording. Suddenly it started to record stills instead of filming. And to download the result to my iMac I had to remove the battery and restart the camera several times. Same thing when I wanted to delete the previous film from the card. In short, absolutely nothing worked as expected...

I still have the box, GoPro Hero3 Black Edition it says.

Sounds like you were unlucky.

The upgrades are normal business, but my remote has been fine, and the iMac bit you describe is just crazy.

There is a helpful users forum

http://goprouser.freeforums.org/

but I guess it's too late if you've thrown it. :nonchalance:

I was into that forum last summer and discovered that I was not the only one with exactly the same problems. I have a handful of other (bigger) cameras and I am shooting a lot with them, at least 10.000 pictures/year so I am not new to the digital world...

Thread drift for sure but I've found that reading forums and Amazon reviews can be frightening, as in general people will often only post on something when they are annoyed/frustrated/it's faulty. This distorts the fact that millions of other people are quite happy with the purchase.

I'm currently driving a car with a gearbox that is going to explode at any moment, have another cheaper waterproof camera that is going to leak next time it rains in a different country, a boat with an engine that is due to expire in 2.5 miles time and have just bought a fridge that will soon think it's a microwave :)

Sure, that's happened to some people but as I said, there are a lot of people out there who haven't had the problems and don't bother to post.

Still sorry to read of your experiences with the GP though. It must be very disappointing. I only decided to buy mine after reading lots of positive comments on here and watching some great videos; that Halcyon guy posts some nice ones.

This is exactly why I bothered to post here, I was also reading of all the fantastic experiences with the GoPro and only after I bought it I found out that there were quite a number of other disappointed owners out there. When did you ever read that a Rolls could break down...? :)
