Good yacht guide ?

Somewhere I have a copy of an excellent reference to sailing boats which lists essential data and an overview of each boat. But I can't locate it and have promised Cocktail I'd tell her what it was called so she can get a copy before big trip to SBS.

It was a ring bound home printed copy with a pale yellow cover and I believe came in 2 volumes - up to 32 feet and over 32 feet.

Does anyone know of it - and if it's still obtainainable ? (A web search comes up with the Good Yacht Guide but that definitely wasn't it.)

Is that "Bristow's book of Sailing Cruisers" published back around 1975, following a similar volume for dinghy classes. It would be more than somewhat dated now. The obvious current reference source is the recently finished A-Z series in YM. Wouldn't be surprised to see that out in book form shortly, try asking <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/sendprivate.pl?Cat=&User=jamesjermain>James Jermain</A>.
 
Don't think it was Bristows - we used it when buying in 1997 and it had up to date info then - think we may have found it via small ads in PBO - but still hunting amongst the piles of yachtie mags which litter the house.

I know the one you mean, I have a copy for the smaller boats (I think up to 25') at work. I am not back there until next week so I can't put my hand on it at present.

I think I read somewhere that the chap who produced it died but his wife was still publishing it. If you haven't got the details by next week I will dig it out. It used to be advertised in PBO.

I've heard of something called "Bristows book of yachts and charter"... but that's what it seemed to be: oriented towards choosing a boat for chartering...

Sorry to shout but yes this was the home of the Good Yacht Guide but sadly the woman who produced it died about a year ago. The woman who answered the phone was very friendly but has no connection with the publication and believes it also has gone to its maker. The phone no. / address is now merely a private address.

Pity - it was an excellent publication.

I have a book called ,Sailing boats of the World, edited by Rhonda Budd Published by Bayard Books but out of date now Pub 1974, Cost me £5 in a S/H bookshop

Gives details of GRP boats manaufactured then

Maybe it is the same one - I hadn't noticed that it is published in England. The ranges are different from the one we have and the references to "Sailboats" had misled me into thinking this was a US publication.

If anyone buys a copy I'd be interested to hear if it's any good - although they list the boats I haven't found any samples of the content.

I have a copy of each of the yacht guides. They were published approx 1995 so are probably out of date unless you are looking at second hand yachts. I could email you specific pages if required but I note that a previous reply directed you to an up to date source so you might not need my 'older' info.
