In case you want electrical/electronic gear ... I have just had some excellent service from Maplin (www.maplin.co.uk). I ordered some items yesterday afternoon over the internet, and the goods arrived this morning at 10am. That is from S Yorkshire to Surrey overnight.

They are offering two digital multimeters for a fiver at the moment. And they seem to work! One for the boat .. one for home?

Regards

In my other life as a marine electronics engineer, I use them quite a lot, their inverters are worth a look.

The mail order service is excellent.
My only gripe is the stores. I have found the service in the stores excellent but some staff believe you have to shop at the sound of a hi-fi blasting :-( I have walked out before as I have found the sound unbearable. May be I'm too old.

I expect forwarding this thread to head office would probably get this problem sorted out quickly. I have found the Chester branch distractingly loud as well at times. Otherwise the branches are a great place to spend a wet Sunday afternoon when the weather is too manky to sail. Caverns of boys toys to clutter up your house!

Re inverters from maplin

Once bought "handy mains" inverter from maplin-made by swicthed mode ltd : was hopeless for electric motors & easily damaged by the "wrong type" of load.

now sits un-used after last warranty repair & "we won't fix it again" from manufacturer.

I too get peeed off with loud music in stores and one occasion have had to walk out because I couldn't hear myself think. These days I shop as much as I can on-line I find it so much more convenient. There are times when you need finger the goods but if I know what I want then the net is for me.
