having just bought a new but very old heater I'm now looking for some fuel to burn with it .
any body any idea where I can get good quality paraffin at a good price in Tyne n Wear please

Don't know about availability in your area, but Paraffin Extra from Caldo Fuels is excellent. Odourless fuel, I use it in my Taylors cooker.

Not sure where you are exactly located, but used to get mine from the little hardware shop in Seaton Deleval just round the corner from the island and never had problems with the paraffin (gold colour)

Just looked up on google, the hardware shop is called Wilsons Hardware, it's just off the island on the right side on the A190 heading towards the A19 direction.

Interesting, I too am finding paraffin difficult to locate with only one local hardware store stocking it. I use it in my eber.

I understand heating oil (28 sec stuff) is OK- Am I right?

After a bit of research, I found the best place was East Coast Fibreglass Supplies, in South Shields. Worth getting to know where there anyway...

Definitely worth Knowing as I live in Shields, never knew it existed before your post .

Mike thanks' for taking the time to mention "Wilsons" I'm passing that way on Thursday so I'll pop in anyway

I use it for my Tilley lamp and find that garages sell it. Don't know about up north though and can't comment on the quality, it seems to work OK.

I thought it was all the same but i had a chat with a guy who restores old tilly and vapalux lamps and heaters. He informed me that poor quality paraffin greatly reduces the life of your working parts due to soot and carbon build up.

just an update ..... Wilson's has closed down and east coast fiberglass don't sell it...still looking

What you want is Premium Paraffin to BS2869 class 1, as sold by hardware stores, including B&Q, which I'd have thought was as good as any other vendor. Pre-packs cost ~ £6+ for 4 litres.
This grade is used for lamps, stoves etc. without flues, I use it for my Wallas heater, although class 2 will also burn in it OK.
BS2869 class 2 is domestic heating oil, cheaper, less refined and usually available in bulk.
