I often seem to read about the superb after sales service from Garmin. You've got a problem, they replace the product - no questions asked.

Well it's happened to me!

Whilst away I had an intermittent fault with the power/data cable for my handheld GPS12. Every now and then the unit would report "battery low" despite being plugged in to Magicienne's 12V system.

I rang Garmin. Explained the fault and why I thought it was the cable and also that the cable was quite old. I said "I just want you to confirm that you think this is the problem as well before I buy a new one". Without prompting the chap said "give me your address sir and I'll get one in the post tonight".

It was, arriving next morning for offspring to bring down to the boat.

I think this policy can of course only bring good PR. I for one have been influenced by it and purchased other Garmin equipment despite the usually slightly higher price.

Excellent Garmin.
