Good Marinas - Sweden\'s East Coast Near Stockholm

Hello All --

I'm taking my 35' Enderlein sloop from Copenhagen up towards Stockholm in a couple of weeks and am looking for advice on good port to visit -- aside from Bornholm, Christinso & Visby which seem to be musts.

I am also looking to leave the boat for a month to 6 weeks and was wondering if anyone knows any yards / marinas that are good with wooden boats in and around Stockholm.

Thank you for your time and I hope your spring fitting out is going well.

Re: Good Marinas - Sweden\'s East Coast Near Stockholm

Try Bullando on the island of Varmdo. Good bus service to Stockholm. They are very helpful, very reasonable and reliable. I overwintered there and used it as a base for two seasons. Sailed from Aarhus via a few good ports. If you sail in May or early June the Swedes don't seem to bother to charge harbour fees - except at Arkosund where there is a fearsome female harbour mistress! (Even the locals say she is fearsome).

Or Saltsjobaden Marina, I had good reports on this one but did not go there.

There is also one which is good for Ryan Air at Norrjopping, friends stayed there, it is only 5 miles from the airport.

There are literally hundreds of excellent places to stay and see. In my view it is the best sailing area in Europe. No tides, lovely weather, beautiful scenery, women and food, cheap harbours and exciting navigation.

Hi John,

I'm intending to leave a polyester sloop for the winter in the larger surroundings of Stockholm. Have you found any good, cheap and friendly place to do so?

I'm looking forward to reading from you.

Regards, et bon vent,

Dominique

The glory of that coast are the Naturhams. You must buy the local pilot (Arholma-Landsort, Nautiska Forlaget), and use it, I am told it is now available in English. They have every mooring and anchorage in, and every Gasthamn too: there are thousands. They are all lovely, so I won't name any. A day or two in Stockolm is worth trying. Plan small distances, and occaissional visits to large towns for supplies.

You must have good charts (I like the German ones).

Winter storage is easy and cheap, indoors, at less than a yard in UK. You take your own mast out. It is even cheaper in Germany or Holland.

Have a good time!

I can't help with marinas in Stockholm but I can tell you that the waters there are really used. If you do go to Stockholm I thoroughly reccomend you make a full day visit to the Vasa museum. Anyone with an interest in any sort of boating will be fascinated by this.
