Good electronics installation - solent area

I've just received a quote on new electronics and can barely breathe./forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Doing a full upgrade (chartplotter, pc, ais, vhf, tv etc...) using furuno stuff so quite a bit of money. The quote for the electronics was at a premium to the discount electronics guys but I was ok with paying a bit for a quality installation. However, the installation is costing almost another cost of the equipment.
Any recommendations from anyone that has had a good experience on the south coast? I'm happy to buy the gear myself and pay for an installer or to buy from the installers.

My old man used the guys next to Nick Cox - Lymington (sorry I can't remember their names) electronic retailer and fitters for his MOBO, and was happy...

I used Geoff Sargent to do some work for me. First class, and a keen price too.

Don't go to HME at Mercury. Every time I've tried dealing with them they couldn't care a flying [--word removed--]. Plus they made a right pig's ear of the electronics installation on my old boat, for her original owner. eg: log impeller wire cut too short, so it was a struggle to get the thing in and out. Terrible RFI on the plotter. VHF antenna connector neatly fitted so it would always lie in bilgewater, etc.

Agree with Geoff Sargent. Used to be the Service Manager at Simrad.

You will find that a lot of manufacturers like Raymarine offer discounted stock direct to electrical fitters, so you might not be able to get the equipment any cheaper yourself, If their quote for the equipment seems high to you, check it out with other retailers, and get quotes from several different guys.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Endevourquay, that's kind of why I have sticker shock. I am able to buy the gear myself cheaper. I initially thought fine, there's a premium on the gear but they'll do a good installation, like to keep one party responsible for the entire job etc.. However, then the installation costs were quoted and were huge. 2/3rds of what the gear is worth.
