I have just phoned GJW for a quote on my soon to be owned Four Winns.

They quoted me £465.72 fully comprehensive on the proviso I have an "experienced" person on board for a full season. I have bought the boat to get away from people not have them forced upon me.

Any suggestions out there?

Probably a good idea regardless, but if you do a RYA recognised course most insurers will offer a discount (10-20% usually). I would suggest a Power Boat Level 2, as this will also entitle you to your ICC should you venture abroad.

As for brokers, I have just renewed with Bishop Skinner (0207 566 5800). They offer 15% discount for PBL2 and a further 10% for RYA membership (about £30.00 to join, and well worth it) - and they were the keenest for me by a country mile. The final price was £491.00, the highest quote I got was £986.00, so it pays to shop around.

Navigators and General are also highly regarded.
