\"Good/bad\" marina berths

My first post and just started the process of buying. Amongst other things, can I please ask the forum if there are any berths to avoid in Gosport Marina (Campers)? In doing a search, comments releated to wash from passing ferries.

Many thanks.

Re: \"Good/bad\" marina berths

The outside berths on the wall can apparently get a lot of wash & one or two reports I believe of spreaders being damaged by wash caused by the large ferries. I looked at Campers & Haslar-eventually went to Haslar because they could offer a better berth (in my view) & were cheaper!! whereas in Campers I would be on the wall until a berth further in the marina became free.

Other than swell you might want to think about prevailing wind & tidal flows with regard to berthing etc. For my part I wanted a berth where the prevailing wind would hold me off the pontoon. Can make berthing more interesing but avoids the squeaking fenders all night! You takes your choice....

Re: \"Good/bad\" marina berths

I popped in for a night last week and yes, the ferry wash can make it VERY loppy. I berthed going with the tide, at half ebb neaps and made a total arse of it as the current didn't run straight through the berth but at an angle. On leaving the next day on the flood I thought it would be a doddle. For some reason there seems to be a back eddy and the tide was still flowing out instead of in. I got out without further embarassment.

Try to get a berth as far back as possible into the marina. Also try and get one that is perpendicular to the inlet and not parallel. Much easier to put up with nodding of the boat as opposed to rolling of the boat. We do not have any problem with the wash.
