Weatherweb says wind is going to increase from a SW F4 Wednesday into a NW F5 Thursday and F6 Friday. I just read the forecasts and have no capability beyond that, anyone like to disagree with weatherweb, or guess the weekend?

I'm supposed to be heading off but I don't fancy Lyme Bay in a NW 6, tediously long and uncomfortable, especially in a slow motor boat, for the rest a bit of shore hugging should do the trick.

You can view a 5 day wind forecast on the following cruisers site as well as weather maps and charts for 5 days.

TRy windguru, John, have used it for a year or so and have found it to be very accurate. For Exmouth they are forecasting W or SW, see <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?odh=0&doh=24&wj=mph&tj=c&fhours=180&userp=&psswd=&uid=&user=&pageid=0&odeslano=1&num=&spotcislo=712&viewspot=Go!&uid=1cecb3891df48822b05e41b3a84fc78f&id_user=0>here</A>

If it does turn out to be NW then hug the coast all the way round and it will be flat calm. Also it's a beautiful coastline, an added bonus which most people miss.

Re: Nah!

it's not that bad, i trundled into the bay on the way to dartmth, only ten miles or so makes a big difference. It'll be a long trip at 7knots anyway. Also, yer boat is a flippin lifeboat innit so this trepidation is entirely uncalled for and i was hoping you would actually WANT it to be blowing at least a F8 to see if it can take a good beating.

Re: Nah!

I'm not the slightest bit concerned for the boat, or for that matter my safety, but I do this for fun! I know what corkscrewing for 13 hours does to a man, puts you off corkscrewing is what it does. The bay will take me about 8 hours, and I'd like to do it without having to hold on, in fact having to hold on or not is probably my criteria for leaving harbour!

Re: My Crystal balls ...

Not far out but it was average 29knts with gust to 36 when i crossed from Lymington to Poole this morning. Quite a sea running especially on Christchurch ledge. Not many boats on the water and none going the same way as I was. I wonder why.
