Hi

We have a €379 deposit on a stay at Finike marina ,Turkey. Due to unforseen circumstances we can no longer get to finike.

If you are looking to go to finike this year we will sell our deposit to you for €299, thus saving you €80!

The marina have agreed to let us transfer the deposit to a person we introduce to them. The deposit is not holding any deals , it is purely a lump of cash to be used as you wish on a stay at Finike.

If you are interested, pm us.

Charlie and Alison.

...and I'll throw in a free beer when the taker gets there (assuming I'm still around).

Ziya, the marina manager, mentioned the other week that quite a few boats were in the same position as you, sulaire, but that he'd kept the deposit 'open'. I imagine that Setur financial arrangements prevent his refunding you, but the leeway he's given is typical of his approach. A very helpful chap.

We never paid a deposit. Just sailed in and plenty of space. Out of curiosity, why pay a non refundable deposit?

Probably because in the 2013/14 winter, the marina was absolutely full and boats were turned away. It was a reasonable expectation that the same might apply last autumn. As it turned out, Turkey's more convoluted new residence regulations and reputedly some concerns about the situation in Syria caused lots of no-shows.

P.S. And why, from a marina operator's point of view, accept a refundable deposit?

Hi Mac,

I have never so far in my life entered into an agreement/contract where my deposit would not be refunded. I have altered emailed contract to include...If for any unforseen circumstance I am not able to ********* I will be entitled to a FULL refund of any payments made by me less an amount to be agreed for administration of said contract.

The ***** is depending on the type of contract.

I don't blame you for such precautions, rivonia. On the other hand, surely the 'unforeseen circumstances' which caused many people not to go to Finike did not preclude their going, but simply made it less convenient than they hoped. Certainly many other boats took a different view and are in Finike now. So isn't it moot whether a contract with a stipulation such as yours would have triggered a refund?
(Whether any of this applies to the OP, of course, we do not know.)
