Three weeks until we fly down to the Med for our year of doing things differently. Thanks to everyone for help and advice over the last two years!
Anyone sailing around the Eastern Med over the next year with children onboard, give us a call. PS The website is largely my son´s project, so be kind...

So go well then!
Looks like a fantastic project. We will be in E Med in October, but you'll have already moved on by then. Maybe another of these years...
PS, we're interested in a boat swap Med/ Norway, so if you have any info...

Jepp, by October we reckon to be around western Italy. Never know though. I´ll put your boat swap on a Norwegian website for cruisers. No real culture for it here, but you may be lucky.

Hi OliveOyl wish you a very good trip,my girlfriend and I are planning a year out next spring. The plan is to buy a cheapish sail boat in Turkey with intentions to sail through France back to the Uk ?

Any sailing information on Turkey would be very much appreciated. Were hoping to avoid marina costs so any littel nice bays to anchor on your travels, interested to hear from you.

Werll done! Good luck and have fun: Your kids are luckier than they realise. Having an experience like this will profoundly broaden their horizons.

We are drifting towards Turkey from Spain later in the summer and we will keep an eye open for Cassiopee and her crew

Thanks for the encouragement; not everyone we know is convinced this is a good idea, but hey, if we don´t like it, we come home. Looking forward to meeting you...

We have had our share of muted disapproval too. It seems that when you throw off the conventions of life - even though you are doing no-one any harm - a few people feel very threatened.

One guy even said to me he thought we were being very irresponsible as if everyone sailed off there would be no-one left to pay tax! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Explaining anything to that closed mind would have taken patience and time I don't have

Nothing ventured nothing gained is our motto. So what if you don't like it, you can always change your mind and do something else.

Too many people just carry on where their parents left off, same town, same horizons, because there is never a good time to go. There is always something to stop you if you let it. Career, money, ageing parents, young kids, old kids, grandchildren the list goes on.

Someone very wise (or maybe it was Stingo!) replied to one of my early posts and said the hardest part was "the road out of town", meaning that it is severing the bindings that hold us on the treadmill is the most difficult bit.

Talking of which I have to to go now as we are going to to the second of our three send off parties. No point in having friends and not wringing every last drop of beer out of them. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Been nursing a hangover all day....probably my punishment for being too Gung Ho over the beer.

Off to work in the morning only 9 - "yes ONLY 9" more days to go

Absolutely bl**dy euphoric at the thought - even with a hangover /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Better to try and fail than not to try at all ...as they say.
We've had no regrets, time still flies by even on a lazy day. Are you sure a year is enough?

Good luck, fair winds and kind seas.

Quite - many have fragile models of reality and find it almost impossible to either see something from the point of view of or simply be happy for anyone else...:)

I certainly have had a few asides from friends and family, relationship collapsed, as my girlfriend was not prepared to just throw everything over and start again. The upside is that I have never been happier
