Going far? Car hire from GO in Spain - 'Unlimited mileage' - warning

That's what it said on the website and it says the same on the contract but with a caveat - it's not really unlimited since the car must be returned to base for exchange before 2000km have been driven, otherwise a charge of €2 per km is charged. This means you can't get more than about 600m from base before turning round and driving back. My fault, should have read the fine print but worth watching out for.

If only... it's one of these all electronic interconnected wizz cars. In the old days I could have pulled the drive from the gearbox!

I know a driver for one of the major rental firms has been told to "pull the plug" if a car is getting near its mileage limit. Did'nt say which plug so it must be possible as rental cars are only allowed to do so many miles depending on contract.

As would anyone else. If the amount's substantial, nothing to lose in trying a claim against your credit card company? "Jointly and severally liable" and all that.
If you do, don't be deterred by any conditions the credit card company claim (such as having to make a claim within 30 days): they have no weight under credit card legislation.
