Right, having falling off my chair with the cost of buying one £700, I am going to try and make one, plan to make it out of GPR to keep the weight down.

I plan to do 2 1 mtr sections hinged together for folding, Never played with fibreglass before, so should be fun. ;)

Will post pics of progress and cost to complete.

Many people start with an aluminium ladder for the frame, cheap and ready made.
 
You don't have to spend £700. Force 4 have an excellent one at £500. You can make your own, but once you have use the proper thing you will probably think it money well spent.

Making one our of GRP, I suspect that making it bear the weight is the main issue

Yes I have thought of that, and have a few ideas in mind, (thinking of running 2 x 1" aliminium box section though it) My goal is to not go over 7kg in all.
I have just finished making the plug for it, now to seal it and round off the edges before starting to fibreglass it. The first test will show me what i need to do to make it more cosmetic pleasing to the eye.;)
