Having had the boat two years and been out exactly for two long trips only, due to engine troubles, I have had the boat out at a local yard since November, When I ask about progress the engineer puffs his cheeks out as they do (its gonna cost) etc I am fed up trying to cure the fault on the old engine setup so looking to change engine for newer(cant afford new!), its a turbo diesel V8. I have looked all over the place to find a replacement with no joy as the original engine prior to the diesel swap was a volvo petrol , the leg volvo etc apparently the GMC fits in a treat , the only source of these units is Samuri, anyone dealt with them, are the units good . /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks

water ingress continual fouling of the starter moter which is slung so low in the bilge it picks up every drop a splashes it around, flywheel rusted ,shat spline every thing solid, had every thing taken off arse end to be be replaced and resealed as the cheaper cure, but engine is really too old to drop back in I am told

If you want to avoid continuing problems, suggest you ignore Smaurai version. Try "proper" MarineDiesel version. (UK dealers. EPS Marine at Hamble point. 023 8045 7656 www.epsmarine.com. ) Whilst this might not be the cheapest option, as far as I know it is the only "properly" engineered marinisation of the GMC engine.

i put a 6.5 liter samuria into my old boat
the convertion is far from strait forward and you have to do loads of modifications
they say its a strait swap but its not

but once fitted i must say run like a dream but they are prone to problems with starter motors you need to make a stronger bracket as they come loose
have a look at my website( www.cjrvernon.com ) under cruisers internatianol 224 pictures you can see the installation and how complicated they can be

all the best
