In the past I have used epoxy resin whenever I needed to glue timber battens and pads to the GRP hull of my boat.

Epoxy has been perfectly successful but it takes a long time to set and, being a 2-part product, it needs mixing up and involves some waste. It is also messy to use.

I am wondering if polyurethane glues (e.g. Bison Timber Max and Balcotan) would give satisfactory results for this job. I have used both these on timber/timber joints and they are very strong and durable. Of these two, Bison Timber Max does not foam as much as Balcotan, which is an advantage.

Any advice on the suitability of PU glues for timber/GRP joints would be appreciated.

I needed to fit some timber pads to my hull to enable me to screw down some pipe fittings, and PU did the job very well. I weighted the pads down, and wiped away some of the foam that came out round the edges, but not all of it.

Sikaflex 291 is a polyurethane adhesive/sealer.

I have used it to stick wood to galvanised steel and stainless steel to my epoxy painted deck.

Good stuff.

Me too. But I use Sika 11 FC, designed for exterior use, like roof tiles. Comes in brown and white. Sets a little flexible, but not much. Proverbial excrement to bed covering. Works on wood, stone, metal and plastic (with a few exceptions)

Edit for RogerShaw, I pay around €6 a tube.
