I'm removing about 6 square metres of old non-slip adhesive stuff off the deck of my 22 yo motorsailer.. the idea is to leave the whole deck clean and not to stick anything else on it.. however, the glue underneath is a horrible 1 mm thick greenish solid substance.. any good ideas on how to remove that without damaging the gel coat? I've tried with cotton and acetone but it took a long time to do just 3 square inches.. any suggestion will be highly appreciated.. (the original colour is light cream, but after using the acetone you can still see some light brown stains.. polish after removing the glue? or do I definitely need to paint or cover with new stickers?).. thanks in advance.. You don't say what the consistency of the glue is. If it is hard and brittle, sanding with an angle grinder fitted with a sanding disk would do the job if handled carefully. If it is rubbery, then a chisel may be better. It's very much a "suck-it-and-see" process. Clearly, if you have the whole deck to do, trying to dissolve the stuff is not going to be successful.
Best of luck,
Peter.
