Glue removal - non slip tape?

Four strips of non-slip tape have disappeared from the hatches over the winter and left 50mm strips of hard glue residue. I've decided not to replace the tape as the hatches are rarely walked on so want to remove the unsightly old glue, without damaging the hatch 'glass'. So far I've tried scraping with a hard plastic spatula and rubbing with various solvents (dry cleaning fluid, acetone etc) without much success.

I'm sure there is a tried and trusted method for removing this stuff without damage or too much effort. Can anyone suggest what it is?

If it's hard, a new craft knife blade held a a low angle and used with care. Any minor scuffs can be wet and dry/polished out.

I'm slightly concerned that it doesn't mention acrylic/polycarbonate 'glass'. For less than £3 it might be worth a try, but I don't want to dissolve the 'glass'!

That sounds easy - we've got some in the bathroom cabinet. Have you actually tried it on hard glue residue and does it affect the hatch 'glass'?

I haven't but my wife has and swears by it.

WD40 is very good at removing adhesive residue, spray it on and leave it for a few minutes.

Depending on how strong the tape was, combined with a new stanley knife blade used as a scraper, it should come off pretty easily.

I'll report back after I've collected the bottles and the Stanley knife blade and tried them all. It won't be this weekend, though.

From what I've read I believe acetone and toluene will damage the acrylic fairly quickly so probably best avoided.

None of the suggested solvents worked very well. The glue was completely dry and set solid so I tried wiggy's idea of a craft knife blade. This worked but was slow and prone to dig in to the acrylic. I then tried a Skarsten scraper with a new blade and this was very effective - quick and easy. I had removed all 4 lines of glue in less than 10 minutes. However, there was some scoring of the acrylic so I now need to polish these out.

Next question - what is the recommended sequence of wet and dry and/or compound to polish out these score marks in acrylic hatch 'glass'.

I've used brake cleaner on my hatch, worked pretty well.
