Hi, thinking of replacing the old 'turn and hold for 2O sec connected direct to the glow plugs' switch that is installed on our boat. Can anybody tell me of a suitable relay with timer if possible that i can install. I wish to make it part of the ignition keyswitch if possible, maybe i can find something suitable on ebay originally intended as a car replacement part that can be easily adapted. The engine in the boat is a marinised Nissan 2.8 as fitted in the older Nissan patrol. All suggestions appreciated

Personally I wouldnt bother with timers as they often burn out, simple way is to use and old starter solenoid, the type they used to fit on the minis way back, they last forever, also the timer may not stay on for long enough to start the engine in the winter months.

Thanks for the reply, sound good so i will source a unit and fit it, the ignition switch we have fitted at the moment is a straightforward on/off i suppose i need to change this also to a different type so that i can turn it to the the glow plugs first maybe a biased type so that it returns to the ignition on position when you let go and turning off the glow plug relay, any suggestions ?. The engine starts with a push button at the moment.
