I have an Ardic 04-D diesel air heater to heat my 23 year old Sealine motor boat. I think it's the original unit. After revamping it it works perfectly well but only in hot weather and never in cold!
The problem seems to lie with the Glow Plug which I think is not getting hot enough.

Does anyone know a source of glow plugs for small diesel heaters? This one is 12V, has a spiral heater wire within a metal cylinder with a ring of small holes drilled around the lower part of the cylinder. The top has a hexagonal head and a screw thead to fix into the heater chamber.

Any help would be welcolm. The cold weather is coming and that is when the diesel doesn't fire although the glow plug glows.

With glow plugs, I think the important thing (others may know better) is its physical dimensions, diameter and reach, more than its electrical wattage.
If you take the old one into Lucas or another (good) motor factors, they should be able to source an equivalent.

Have you tried....

Have you tried to fire up the heater whilst the engine's running? Glow plugs tend to either work or not, so if it's not open circuit, it should be OK. On the other hand, diesel heaters are very susceptible to correct battery voltage. In cold weather, there's often insufficient voltage at the heater to convince the control box that it's safe to start.

If you do need a new glow plug, you might try a Volvo Penta dealer - many of them marketed Ardic heaters.
