Just been given a pair of smart grey and red sailing gloves by a well meaning non boaty friend (winters comming). Should I bin em or start a new trend ? Suppose I could get some fender socks to match !!

Yes.....And get mother to knit you a nice red bobble hat......and a black and yellow striped scarf......not to mention a polo kneck in green with extra long arms! :-)

I note from your bio that you build wooden boats, I thought a nice pair of "smart" coloured gloves would have been just in keeping with the bio <s>

Keep this to yourself but sometimes I do wear a pair of leather mitts if working outdoors in the winter! not sailing ones I hasten to add.

Real sailors wear gloves...

...and wear them out in a season.

Of course, if you've got roller blinds fitted fore and aft, electric winches and windlass, self-tacking jibs, don't play the sheets to optimise performance, and other such wimp-outs you might get away without wearing them.

Surprised that in this day and age of 'cotton wool culture' bobble hats haven't been banned .... child could swallow the bubble and choke, parent could then sue the knitter for compensation etc !!!!!!

Am I too young to be synickel ? (not sure about spelllin either !!)

Whats wrong with sailing gloves

What is wrong with sailing gloves, is it better to get rope burns then?
