Waited on hand and foot by the lockeepers, wall to wall sunshine, parking spaces not totally clogged by narrow boats, some decent grub at the Italian Concept and Plowden Arms at Ship Lake.,all for a measly £70.00 whats not to like.
Added excitment of being told off for speeding at Hampton Court... either it was me or the narrowboat got to get an overnight mooring......and being shouted at by to lady rowers for not being on the right side of the pretty red bouys coming down back past Twickenham. :).
Party on Dudes. :)
Grandkids adored the paddling pool at Runnymede and the very posh play area at Henley.
Ps..There is still no blimming pound shop in Henley.Assume there are some poor people there but we did not spot any.
PPs.Still trying to get over the shock of little me actually working a lock..well pushing a button told several boats to move up a bit in order to get the lock full off boats......its the feeling of power .

On the subject of manned locks, I nearly fell off my bike yesterday passing Sunbury Lock to find no less than three staff on duty. One on the controls and one each side of the lock taking ropes. Was great to see how quickly and easily they were turning the lock round. That stretch of river was exceedingly busy but the whole thing went like clockwork.

One even took time to try and explain to a bemused onlooking tourist with somewhat limited English why it's called a sluice :)

Good to see you mate, must have been very close call getting that flybridge under cookham lock cut!

Naa...at least an inch or so to spare.
Must comment how clean and tidy everything was up your way. A real noticeable lack of litter both in and around the river. All the public areas visited appeared to be regularly tidied up .Very little dog poo apparent.
This is in marked contrast to the filth and detritus to be found in my neck of the woods, overwhelmingly plastic drink bottles/McWrappers and plastic bags.

You obviously didn't stop on the EA Weybridge moorings :

Yuk.
Did do our very best to avoid any of the most popular moorings if at all possible. My idea of a "nice" mooring is as far away from any town as possible.
Folks seem to have curious fear of being more than 30 secs away from a minimum of 50.000 other people and if there is the comforting constant rumble of a major motorway or arterial road closebye so much the better it would appear.
The need to bang in a couple of mooring pegs and clear few nettles usually sorts out the men from the boys.

Not enough wine bottles to be boaters rubbish, almost certainly fisherman/fish eaters. Energy drinks to aid late night poaching and cans of Tyskie lager are a dead giveaway.

Well at least the folks who that rubbish belonged to had attemp to dispose of it properly.
Would appear the local council needs to empty the bin once in while.
While moored at Henley (£10.00 a night) the man empting the bins made a regular round trip to remove rubbish and insert new black rubbish sack into bin.
All they desperately need is a Pound shop and could well consider buying a dog on bit of string, selecting a nice dry bus shelter and retiring there.

...and a MacDonalds
Henley........

Not that I make a habit of this....but can somebody explain why so many of the shops only sell clothes for impossibly small women and with no visible prices ?...Just curious.

Also observed,as one does, the considerable number of ladies in lycra with very little to do at 11 o/clock in the morning other than to be shouted at by personal trainer regards the finer points of push ups and jogging !

No substitute for a decent Wimpy, but there is a good kebab shop opposite the Police station;)

I can't say I noticed to many impossibly small women today, but there were a laughable number of gentleman wearing pink trousers. (Apologies in advance to any fellow forumites who choose to clad their legs in fetching feminine pastel shades):D
