In recent years I have noticed that i am rarely completely satisfied with things that I buy, almost to the point of being shocked when things work as they should. This recent , correction, incessant, lousy weather prompted me to see if I could get a tv signal on my mooring instead of just watching DVDs. I bought a glomex omni directional aerial kit which came complete with cable etc and I am amazed. It was never my intention to mount it at the mast head, hoping that I could hoist it when necessary. No worries. I get crystal clear reception on all free view channels with the aerial sitting in the fore cabin. I am in Gosport Marina so I hardly think it would be considered a good reception area. I have no connection with glomex, I bought it from Marine Superstore for about £80 and I am for once 100% satisfied. Recommend it . Thanks. Alan

I bought and fitted a Glomex aerial to the mast about 5 years ago whilst the mast was down.
I've yet to use it. Did you fit the amplifier that came with it? I ask because I've long since lost mine and wonder if it's necessary.

Was a bit expensive

Yes I did but if you've lost yours they can be found on eBay for a tenner! Alan. There you go, corrected the spelling mistake. Wasn't me, it was the brain on the iPad. Thinks it knows what I'm saying better than me

Yep - then again Apple gear is fairly upmarket so your iPad probably thought that you would pay the price of an Avon 4 metre RIB for a TV amplifier :)

The reception where I am is much better than before now following upgrades to the transmitter or something. I just bought a tiny 10" 12v telly and the 6" rubber duck aerial it came with gives all freeview channels just sat on the coachroof under the sprayhood. I was very surprised...

Gosport is only 12nm from the Rowridge transmitter mast(s), so I wold expect good reception.

It is worth bearing in mind that the old transmitter is horizontally polarised, but the new one transmits at a higher power and is vertically polarised. Not many houses in the area have turned their aerials to benefit from the new transmitter, but it is worth considering in the Solent.

Not all the Glomex TV aerials are capable of receiving the vertically polarised signals from the new mast.
