Hi, Have just fitted a Glomax V9125 tv antenna to the top of my mizzen mast in the hope of getting a better tv picture. When i came to try the aerial with my old analogue tv set the picture was almost as bad as when used with my indoor aerial...
I then tried the glomex with a digital tv and it works fine.
So is it the case that the old analogue tvs don't work well with glomex aerials ??.
Thought the glomex would work on analogue and digital sets.

Grateful of any one else views on this matter.

I found that the only way that I could get good tv reception in Haslar marina was with a Glomex aerial working through a digi box. No digi box and the picture was almost non existant.
With the digi box perfect picture and of course lots of extra channels. I have not connected the Glomex amplifier.

Had a glomex on the last boat, worked fine on analogue.
Must depend on where you are, I get huge variations round the Scottish - Irish coasts with the current 'nargus' aerial.
Everything will come good when we go totally digital.............................won't it?

No, an antenna does the same job digitaL or analogue. With digital however you either get an apparently perfect picture or none at all wheras analogue has variations from good to bad.
So you may get a good digital picture but poor analogue with a poor signal. You did of course provide 12v to the Glomex for the amplifier. Just checking and assuming it requires it.
You should have got an improvemnet with Glomex up high compared to indoor antenna. olewill

... and thats the point of digital TV. If you can get it all it will be perfect every time. As the signal degrades it just cuts out, unlike analog where you will still get something, even if its not viewable.

Thanks all, Think i have same prob as john. My next job will be to take aerial down , at the same time check the mast head connection again.
Then try a length of coax from tv to aerial at deck level to see how good reception is ?.
Then return aerial to top of mizzen mast. I guess i will end up buying a new digi tv in the long run.
Thanks again. David.
