For those who do not want to be forced to relive the 1960s, this Globe 40 could be a better alternative for people who want a round the world sailing / racing challenge.
In proven Open 40 boats with lots of second hand boats available, so costs probably not dissimilar to things like the Golden Globe Race (assuming a podium place not the imperative).
And a sensible route which gives real Southern Ocean challenge without dicing with icebergs
