Glenarm NI to Mull

Hoping to sail up the west coast of Scotland this year. Probably via Glenarm NI then on to Gigha, Jura and Mull. Anyone got any info on Glenarm and are there still mooring buoys at Gigha?
Any places to avoid or any must see? Thanks for any advice and suggestions.

Haven't been there since 2000, but definitely recommend Gigha. If wind is from right direction, try Baigh na Doirlinne anchorage in NW corner. Quiet (no good for shops, pub, etc) and nice beach. Heaven, in fact! Craighouse on Jura is nice. Mooring buoys when we were there, holding is supposed to be poor, but we anchored in lee of the islands when wind blew from east, and held OK. Mull: Gometra harbour is good. Bullhole OK if you can get a mooring buoy, not so good for anchoring as the tide pours through and swinging room is a bit limited. Tobermory much better since mooring buoys sorted out, also good for anchoring within reach of town.

Went to Glenarm last year and got locked in Marina! Heavy security door and no staff, result was that I couldn't walk into the vilage, so I sailed away and went elsewhere- check that it's changed.

Two years since I've been up there, and I still miss the area. Islay is ok, visit one of the distilleries if you have time. Mooring buoys were still a Gigha last time I was there. If going to Mull then Tobermory is worth a visit.

Glenarm is great and an ideal place to head round the mull.When i was in last year the man in charge gave you a key(needed to get back from the pub).Moorings to my knowledge are still in Ghigha. From there the choice is endless.Ardfern,Pholdobrainn,Tobermorey(must)Coll,Eigg.the list is endless,hope the weathers good,enjoy.

You could consider Ballycastle as an alternative to Glenarm - its a quick sail up to Gigha from there - there are moorings there and you are well placed then to nip through Islay Sound then across to Colonsay, Iona, Gometra etc. as others have suggested.

Note the new development at Port Ellen too. Oh, and Craighouse can be hopeless if you don't get a mooring and the wind's up: the kelp is about 10 ft deep. On the other hand, the holding is excellent at Gigha. Several times I've had to scoot across from Craighouse when vicious gusts started falling off the Paps of Jura (seems to be quite a common occurence in late afternoon as the sun begins to go over to the west side of the peaks).
