hiya.

fast monarch is fast approaching completion....

had to replace the cabin windows, had a look round at various window companies... arn't they expensive!

so my idea was to have some sealed units made to my pattern... crazy idea??

had a good chat to my supplier, the result?...

a new set of 6 windows, all double glazed, bronze tint (anti sun).... ooooooh get him!

all for a very reasonable outlay.

now i know it's not "classic" but without very close inspection you'd never know.... like them there mercedes benzes....

the question is... my cabin sides are solid mahogany... what should i "trim" the windows with for a nice look?

mahogany, teak, light oak, or stainless section... i don't want to use brass/ bronze, as i want to use the boat... not spend every other day polishing the thing.

answers on a postcard to.....

Whaqt you use largely depends upon your own aesthetics. You can get aluminium anodised a dark greenish brown, to look like weathered bronze. If you want to use a timber trim, I would recommend a contrasting colour to the mahogany, such as a pine of some kind.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

i can't do a pic at the moment as i am waiting for the glass.

the sealed units are the same thickness as the cabin sides, so the "trim" will simply clamp the glass in place.

i liked Peters suggestion of a contrast, but i'll have to find a suitable timber or someone to make an alluminium surround.

i don't know if you could see enough detail... but here's the cabin side with old glass removed....

yep,

the ones fitted to mine also had a plastic trim that clipped into the frame to cover the screws.

i could get a profile shaped to look the same i guess... and just keep the wood trim inside.

anyone know for a dorest company that bends and anodises this type of section?

cheers, steve.
