Gland rope size

I have a Bukh 20 hp engine and a 2:1 gearbox. My propshaft is about 1.5 inches in diameter [ I can't measure it because the boat is 2000 miles away]. Here's my question : What diameter is my gland rope likely to be?
I want to buy some here in the UK and take it with me to the boat in Greece.

The shaft will be 1" or 25mm not 1 1/2". The packing could be 5 or 6mm. The stuff is so cheap suggest you buy 1m of each. Readily available from chandlers or marine engineers or mail order from people like ASAP Supplies, T Norris or Lake Engineering.

Just did mine, but couldn't get the dimensions before I ordered so got some 8mm and 10mm.

As mentioned, so cheap, who cares? The spare wrong stuff is in my tool box as a spare in case anyone else needs some while I'm out and about.

Had a gear cable fail a couple of years ago but no spare. A chap in the boat moored in front had spares and he gave me one. I offered to pay (it was about £50 worth!) but he wouldn't have it... Pay it forward!
