Morning.
Just been given the boot by Henri lloyd. Sent an e-mail to them for information regarding the re-soling of a pair of their TP Ocean boots. Just received the reply that they "do not have a recommended company". Does anyone know of a repairer, pref. in the North of England, this is the type with the moulded sole.
regards
Pete W

I'll be on my uppers if I have to buy another pair. It just seems ridiculous that such an expensive item of footwear can't be repaired by the manufacturer. According to a thread on another site regarding Dubarry boots, the same situation exists with their footwear, in that the newer moulded sole boot is not repairable.

Dubarry resoled my boots last year. The process also - apparently - required the goretex liner to be replaced. So, effectively a new pair of boats with 'antiqued' uppers.

Pity they are not made by Dickies the work ware/boots manufacturer.I bought a pair of work boots from them and after about 6 months the uppers began to loose the surface on the leather.I complained to the supplier who said" wear and tear".I then complained to Dickies who sent me without question a brand new pair of boots.

Reminded me of the 'TUF' workwear boots of the 60s and early 70s, which came with an absolute 'replacement with new' guarantee for 6 months.

Many of the Scottish climbers of that time - and there were scores - would buy a pair to use tramping up and down the scree-covered mountain slopes to get to the rock faces, then change into expensive specialist climbing boots for the technical stuff. The boots would last about a week/10 days being scuffed right through by the extremely abrasive gabbro ( like t'carbide granules ) of the Skye crags and scree-runs, with similar in Glencoe and the Cairngorms, then it was back to the city for another pair under the guarantee.

I believe the record was five pairs....

Before the era of emails I wrote to Henri Lloyd asking about repairing some of their waterproofs. The barstewards didn't bother to reply - I have never bought anything from them since...

Don't know if it applies to Henry Lloyd but, many well known brands no longer make anything themselves so don't have repair facilities, they've become marketing and sales companies with products made in whichever country happens to be cheapest.

Although I was talking about a time before everything was necessarily made in Far Eastern sweat shops, I would have accepted a reply to that effect. It's just that sailing clothing is generally ill-fitting and eye-wateringly expensive with presumably a high mark-up and profit level. To ignore a customer asking how to repair their product after a couple of years use is offensive, to me at least.

Interesting...
Dubarry re-stitched the welts on my boots gratis. A year or so down the line I approached them for a re-sole and was asked to send them off with £60 for an "assessment".
I would gladly have paid for the work and materials but not that sort of money for someone to look at them and suck their teeth.
The boots went in the bin and I bought another make, all leather, for £80,

Took my Dubarrys back to factory in Ballinaslow with the stitching worn through due to me sitting on my feet while doing fore deck work on non slip surface. They restitched them while I waited. No charge.

We recently bought two pairs of doobries ( as we call them ) at SIBS from Andark and was surprised they were glued/molded soles so I asked the sales lady about possible future repairs and she said they couldn't resole the new molded variety and the stitched sole ones were no longer made.

Another satisfied Dubarry customer. I sent my 10 year old Shamrock boots to Galway on Monday 11th and got a call on Friday saying they were ready. Paid £50 by cc over the phone last Monday and they arrived by courier yesterday. Resoled and with the Goretex lining replaced. Well pleased.
