Anybody out there got this GPS dongle and managed to get it to work on an XP netbook ?

Bought this recently from Amazon (perhaps should have waited and gone with the Maplin version mentioned on this forum).
Good news is it is inexpensive, but the bad news so far after a morning of trying is:
(a) needs to be installed from a CD ROM - not available as std on most netbooks (sorted as already had to buy to install Imray chart software)
(b) has quick install guide (one page) but no user manual
(c) only software included is an AGPS tool - through which I can see it is connected and giving out NMEA sentences which whizz past, but no way of showing position etc
(d) GiSTEQ site has support forums for other products but not this one

Have so far tried to link to Imray Chart Software (no joy, wont allow me to change baud setting to 4800, as stays greyed out); NavMon PC (looks good but shows GPS as "Fault")

Anybody mastered this one or suggestions for debugging.

Should have nothing to do with the netbook per se or for that matter the XP operating system. Clearly you need drivers for the dongle so that it interacts with the operating system.
I would install it on a proper laptop, using the install disc and get it working, and tested. Then port the drivers and the software onto the netbook with either an Sd card or a flash memory

Look here for link to user manual....and FAQ

Thanks. Unfortunately this link is to the same "user manual" that came with the Dongle on the CD ROM - and it is a massive one page and circa 100 words, about how to install. Indeed the words don't match exactly what the software does

The FAQ on the site relate to a complex procedure to download a utility to change the baud rate from 38400 to 4800 - yet the manual states it is preset at 4800. Not sure if there is any way to check this directly ?

Thanks also. I appreciate it is not a netbook issue - just that it is sold as being for netbooks yet requires a CD ROM that most don't have, which is not very smart.
I have a USB CD ROM so claims to be installed successfully, but the lack of any software supplied to interpret the data to even give a position, not any documentation beyond one partially accurate page has given a halt to proceedings
