Giorgi 46\' Advice please

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a while. Now it's time to take a leap. I'm seriously considering a Giorgi (I believe part of pershing) 46' OPEN as my first foray into Med motor yachting.

I can't find out much about these craft but the example I'm looking at is a 1990 and really is in extraordinarily good condition. It's Twin CAT 425's on 800 hours.

I think it's reasonably (comparitively) priced at E195,000, does this seem like value?? I'm really not prepared to spend more on a first boat.

If anybody has any information about this craft or experience using one, I would be very grateful to hear it.

Best regards,

Mike

Don't know the model or the manufacturer but seems about the right sort of money for the size and age. My first boat is 46' and despite lots of advice to buy smaller which I ignored it's been great. Sooooo glad I didn't get anything smaller so if it's good then go for it.

I've always seen a very few of these boats around, also in Italy.
Who told you it's part of Pershing? Possibly it was at that time, but nowadays Giorgi is not active anymore, as far as I know.
Judging the price is very difficult anyway. Engine hours mean almost nothing, being a regular use and good maintenance much more important.
I'd expect such boat to be difficult to sell, generally speaking

As you are a newcomer then I would go for a well known make of boat and by paying out that sort of money you would be able to get out of it if the unfortunate happened and you decided to sell up shortly after, although im sure you will be hooked. A word about the cat 425. these were the worst one of the circa 1990 era made, some of them self destruct, the 375 is ok, steer clear of them, the later 435 and 440 wre the last ones made and all the problems were sorted, sadly this engine is out of production due to the stringent emmissions regs. all this IMHO but I am in the trade, good luck Paul js.

Agree with the others that because Giorgi is not a well known make, it will be more difficult to sell on. In fact, if this is the boat I think it is, it has been advertised for many months. In addition, I think its a bit overpriced and I would'nt pay more than €160,000 for it
You should also go and look at secondhand Sunseeker Camargue 46 and Princess 46 Riviera's which are in the same age and price range. The Sunseeker is a great looking boat IMHO and most of them have big GM Detroit engines which are, reputedly, unburstable

Folks thank you so much for the advice. So really it's a gamble to say the least to buy an unknown or obsolete make when a sunseeker or princess can be had for similar money. Or at least it's a boat to keep forever rather than have any resale value.

Following your comments i have found other negative reports of the engines, and one clearly must assume big rebuild costs for engines of this age regardless of the condition of the boat?

Thanks again.

If you really really like the boat then make silly low offer and sit back and wait.If you just want "any" boat then get mainstream unit that you can sell on.Made offers on two boats recently of around 2/3 asking price and both offers accepted (not both at same time). One boat could possibly been had for half asking price.I hasten to add the boats were not anywhere near your price range or in ready to go condition.
Friend of mine was reluctant to make 140k offer 42 ft sealine which needed work. for sale at £165k.Went for less than £ 130k in the end .

And this is summer is it?
