We are planning on moving our Boat from Portugal to Saint Carlos late September
From Gib we aim to cover 50-100 miles per day depending on sea conditions and have allowed two weeks to complete the trip
Having no first hand experience of this coast line can anyone recommend towns / marinas worth visiting or to avoid,
If time allows we may even take a slight detour to Ibiza for a few days but again have no knowledge of the area.

Suggestions much appreciated

I'm sure you have read our delivery report but Cartagena is well worth a couple of days.
Not spent much time there ourselves but I've met several people who loved the place.
Good marina with an old (very) town.

Other than that - nearer home - Denia and Valencia.
Valencia particularly - the north marina is the nearest to town - both are cheap - a walk/cycle ride up the old (diverted) river bed to the old town is very pleasant.
Restaurants in Denia are good.
By then you will be about 100 miles from home.

The old town of Malaga is very pretty with lots of historic buildings and lovely little shops; be warned its a maze of streets and easy to get lost. The Roman castle is worth a visit and there's a beautiful cathedral.

There a some good restrauants in the port , with moorings sometimes available on the promenade, or in the marina with is located a bit further out in the port.

Suprisingly few tourists who seem to arrive at the airport and go west to Marbella etc. and overlook this interesting town.

We moved our F43 from Gib to SC in 2011 - Hurricane and SWMBO assisted us, we did it at the end of February, it was a bit bumpy in places but we managed to pick a three day weather slot so all went well.

The marinas we stayed:

First night - Almerimar - smallish marina med-style mooring with fuel berth and office to port as you enter

Second night - Alicante - larger of course we just stayed on visitors berth overnight

We arrive in SC on schedule day three.

Moraira marina looked quite nice, we popped in there to refuel

Denia - definitely worth a week or so, only a short hop over to Ibiza, about 112nm south of SC

Valencia - Juan Carles I - nice marina and good value, about 80nm south of SC

Puerto Las Fuentes - nice little marina for a short stay, about 26nm south of SC

Hope you enjoy your trip - wish we were doing it again....!

I bought my boat from Porto Banus to Sant Carles about 5 years ago during the month of July, and I seem to remember that was about 400 miles.

Rubbish weather every day and spent about 6 or 7 nights in Marinas all the way up the coast.

Hope you have a better trip

Graham

We have done this a few times,
We did Estapona, Banus,Benalmadena, Almerimar, Mazaron with possible stop off at Le Manga although very quiet, then Denia, option to Ibiza but 60nm from here.
Valencia is our home for the winter so worth using as a stopping off point and cheap as well.
We average around 40 NM a day but some times have to do 100 as no marinas that we can fit in en route.

mike
so about 470 miles then .
i see you had either two long or two expensive days on your trip.
ill probably make a few more stops and travel during the hours of daylight,
leave Gib about 27th Dec and arrive early new year

Thanks for that Stuart - I paid about £1 per litre in Roses!!!

BTW - thanks for the help with that rope - it worked really well.
I think I've finally found a job for those silly bathing platform lockers.
I'll post a full report sometime on a fresh thread.
