can anyone help
Require the price of fuel in Gibraltar or north Africa end of april about 4000ltrs. Must i use cash or can i pay with debit card help would be apprecated as it is almost 10 years since we re fueled in gibraltar.
Sucking fumes down to a few hundred ltrs.

Certainly credit cards were no problem at the fuel berth in Gib when we filled up (to the brim!) in 2007. Presumably debit cards the same. There are two fuel stations, BP and rats can't remember. I think prices are the same on each. I think there are a couple of forum members in Gib right now.

Would say that when we were there (mid 2007) Ceuta was much cheaper than Gib, but you would have to figure in the difference in euro costs. Might be worth allowing enough fumes to assess both of them.

In 2007 I cheerily tanked up tax free in Gib and sailed over to Smir in Morocco only to find the prices were roughly half those at Gib. ..and yes you can use debit/credit cards. Don't have 2009 prices but can confirm diesel is approx 50p per litre in Tunisia.

I remember a strange event when filling my tanks in Gib, about 3 years ago.
I was advised to ask the fuel station attendant for the discount as I was departing for Greece, the next day.
This I did, and the price was initially reduced to a figure he quoted, and then it was reduced further, the more fuel I took. I've got two 350 ltr tanks but was unsure as to the accuracy of the contents gauges and I was filling to the brim, anyways.
Apparantly this is normal in Gib!!!! I recall it was about 50p a ltr.

BP and Shell, very cheap but watch out for water in fuel. 2007 some boats fuel contaminated. I got petrol for outboard, water contaminated. Suggest you use a funnel with filter/water trap when filling up.

Geoff, CCs OK in Gib in 2008. Assuming you are going to spend one night at least the best plan is to walk to the fuelling berth and agree a price. As others have said, it is volume related. Get them to write the price down on some paper. Oil can be misleading in Gib....some is packed in 4 litre containers some in 5 litres and it isn't immediately obvious. Give our best to V.

Same question, Help please on fueling in Gibraltar. I am importing a large motor yacht to the Med and discharge port Gib in April . I am after deisel fuel price and tax situation if the boat then leaves for Spain and France. About 10,000 litres is it cheaper to fuel there or up the coast?

[/ QUOTE ]It's well worth while phoning them in Gib to get a price. There is a Shell and a BP station, side by side. With our sort of quantities (up to 650 litres) there is quite a difference in prices. I doubt whether there is a tax issue -- I spoke with one sailing school from Sottogrande that fuel in Gib all the time quite overtly. We have never been questioned and the diesel isn't 'red'.

OK,

Both Fueling berths now open, Shell and BP. Price was 58p on Saturday but they will discount for bulk buy. No problem with CC's or cash. Overnight berthing avaialble at OV but be aware that the Gib boatshow is on over Easter weekend so it will be busy. No problem with tax situation eigther, just buy and cruise.

BTW, I live in Queensway Quay Gibraltar!

Cheers
