Have just purchased 16mm 3 strand nylon to extend my anchor chain. I used the good link supplied on the forum to obtain a really well described warp to chain splice.
A couple of questions arise:
A recent article in PBO suggests that I should have bought braided rope to avoid kinking, is this likly to be a real problem?
I plan to use the remainder of the rope (50 yards) as a general spare towing etc line, will kinking be a problem here? I will flake the rope into some kind of container to ensure that it come out when needed. As the rope will not float is this a danger when towing ( props etc)?
I remember in my (long ago) caving days we sometimes used to stow ropes by laying out in 4 big lines and then somehow looping the whole thing up like a sausage. Line of several 100 feet could thus be dragged along nasty wet tight passages but still reliably deploy when needed. possibly usefull for sailing but difficult to lay out on deck.
I would like to learn some more basic splicing loops back splice etc, does anyone know of any sources that can be linked to??
