Annoying development in the yottimags, of including an ad on stiffer paper, so that the comic always tries to open on that page. Guess the ad department charges a premium page rate for that position. If only the advertisers knew that the first thing I do is tear out the stiffy and stick it in the recycling sack. Anybody do the same?

I'm posting out of friendship here, coupled with a touch sadness that Ken's witty post hasn't got any replies.

Actually, i think the cardboard in mags has been around for a while.

My idea is to write to IPC and complain - on the back of some (say) 150 grade wet-and-dry sandpaper. Or 40 grit if it's gonna be a really VERY abrasive letter.

Yup. Same here. Makes reading the thing tedious otherwise.

I ripped mine out in the shop I bought it from.

And here was me thinking I was uniquely grumpy.

Actually the first thing I do is bin any leaflets or flyers they have tucked inside. The only merit the stiffy has is that if you hold it and shake the magazine all the dross falls to the floor.

THEN I tear or cut the darn thing out and bin that as well. Without reading it of course.

Agreed, and while it had a real purpose in that the page was specifically tear-out with a reply-paid card section to request a brochure or whatever, I thought it was acceptable.

Otherwise I agree, it is meant to be annoying and deserves to be ripped out and ignored.

Mike.

I also hate the stiff pages and all the other bumf that people think I want to read. It all goes straight into the recycle bin.

Advertising types are not wired right. They really think that people will buy a product from someone who has annoyed them. The one that annoys me most is Channel 4OD, which forces you to watch the adverts and doesn't allow you to fast forward through or skip them. If someone actively wants to skip an ad it must be totally counterproductive to force them to watch it. They must then be less likely to buy the product than if they hadn't seen the ad, I know I am.

THIS is a stiffy:eek:

It says it prevents him from having sex??? Am I missing summat here, I would have thought that he would be calling himself Martini..........
