I've just taken all of my boats cushions out for the winter and now realise they have a distinctly sour smell. Unfortunately the covers have no zips, so it is not possible to put them through the washing machine.

They are currently in a room with a de-humidifier to dry them out, but can any one suggest a cleaning/deodorizing process that could help?

Go to your nearest pet supermarket. There you will be able to find a bottle of 'Simple Solution' cat urine odor and stain remover.

THis stuff has bacteria and enzymes that destroy smells. Works wonders. You need to really wet the fabric, not just surface spray, as the liquid needs to get to where the smells are

Gosh. Many thanks for the lightening fast responses.

I'll be round there tomorrow. Just need to work out the Dutch for cat's pee now /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ah, didn't notice the Netherlands bit. Hopefully there will be similar brands there, You really need the type of smell remover with bacteria and enzymes in it, so you remove the source of the smell, not just temporarily mask it.

works in smelly bilges and all sorts, removing diesel smells from clothing etc

Needs several days for full effect as well, not a one hour wonder cure

me well I use this, not cheap but it really does work and leaves a very pleasant smell.

I could accept the price being $32. Its the $43 for shipping it that's too much.

We've just had our cushions steam cleaned. Called one of the chaps locally who cleans sofa's etc. He did all the cushions (14 in total!) cleaned and deoderised them for £65 - its brought the colour up really well, brought all the muck out, and they smell nice and clean.

"KATTENPIS", but indeed, "Oranjeboom" is spot on... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
In Dutch pet shops, you can get "Odor Guard", which is enzyme-based. Effective against fuel spills too...

BTW: our cushions were attacked by the gases from the two 110 Ah batteries in the bunks. They had a smelly rubberized casing as well, and nothing short of replacing the foam helped.
