Ended up in Southampton last night so stayed on the boat. Left at 630 this morning for commute to London.

Seems the boat and pontoon had got to the condensation phase and then frozen. Getting from the boat to the pontoon was interesting to say the least.

However it was low tide and I just couldn't get up the ramp! The grit bin had been nicked. It took me about 15 mins, sideways on the railings.
Some ramps have horizontal grip rungs but we have none. Never had this before and I am a regular winter boater. Must take salt to the boat!

Next time take the socks off , put your shoes back on and then your socks stretch over your shoes giving perfect ice grip.

Dont you Southern jessies know anything ;)

Blimey, for a second I thought you were suggesting to climb barefoot!
I just told on OF thread that I'm happier with Med rather than UK winters, and I wasn't even thinking of these side effects of tides...

Yes surprisingly effective. I once had sheet ice on the decks. A couple of buckets of seawater later and it was all gone.

Didn't work when we picked up a fleet of new Naiads from their yard on Orust one February. One boat did try, and the water froze on the deck. Not surprising really, as the sea itself was frozen. The local icebreaker was booked to come and smash it all up before we could leave.
