Getting your boat up on the plane?

My boat prefers the 85hp outboard engines trimmed nearly full down.
It does not have trim tabs.
Give it 3/4 to full throttle.
Trim up engines, so bow is just about to gently rise and fall, or before cavitation.
Throttle back to just stay on plane for fuel efficiency.

Agree with what you say RP, but I don't let the boat start to "porpoise" (rise up and down), I don't like the sensation, I prefer it to sit steady and trim down accordingly.

It also depends on weight in the stern and the ratio of power to that weight, like with sterndrive/outdrive boats with moderate H.P., they could look towards the assistance of a bolt on fin to the cavitation plate and/or transom mounted trim tabs.
Personally I find a boat that wallows deep in the hole with the bow pointing skywards a bit frustrating.

Same as yourself. No rocket science, really... :)
As AM says, actually you shouldn't allow the boat to porpoise, but if reaching that point and trimming in a bit is a system which works for you to find the optimal trm level, that's fine.
My only 2c, since I wouldn't have expected a boat like yours to NEED almost full throttle to get on the plane, is to try swinging the steering wheel while accelerating. Not a lot, just a quarter of turn either sides (the boat shouldn't actually start steering), but with a rather fast movement. On some boats, that helps the stern lift and allows to get up on the plane with less throttle.
Trim tabs would also help a lot of course, but if the boat doesn't need them while cruising, they would probably be a waste of money.
