It all started as a bit of fun on Scuttlebutt. Showed the replies to SWMBO and the reply was why the hell don't we do it...

O Sh*t - I thought but as you think about it then you realise why not.

I gather Sell Up & Sail is a good reference are there any recomended web sites & forums (apart from this one) to check out ref planning and kids education.

And the hardest question of all what size of boat for 2 adults and 2 kids (4 & 6)? I know cost is involved but you can buy 2 yrs older and 5ft longer

Go back about six months and see :Does size really matter: its all answered there. I ended up with a 46' cruising boat. Good luck.

re the size of boat, the realistic bottom end of the scale would be around 30 foot (see libby purves's 'one summer's grace'

the top end is defined by what he can handle in heavy weather while she is busy with the kids (or vice versa, i'm not sexist)

to get more space without massive gear, plus a level platform for the kids, consider a cat. we have one because swmbo hates rolling & heeling and we're very happy with the choice.
