Here at National Boat Shows we are always looking for ways for visitors to get to the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show quickly and easily. With this in mind we are laying on coaches from the popular boating centres on the South Coast – Poole, Southampton, Hamble, Swanwick and Port Solent as well as Winchester on three of the most popular days. Departures are on Saturday 7th, Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th of January, so whether you prefer to go midweek or at a weekend you can benefit from the convenience of door to door coach travel – and with tickets just £34 including entry to the Show, you’ll probably save money too!

You arrive on preview day in a Range Rover: you get whisked to the Sunseeker stand, and sip Veuve Clicquot.

You arrive on a coach: your photo is added to the "no hopers" list :)

a few years back, i was having a guided tour over a 50ish SS, as i left the salesman thanked me for my interest, then said hello to the next in line who tured out to be (apparently), a mega loaded, top footballer (who i would,nt and cant remember) "BUT", he looked as if he had spent the last 4days sleeping under wandsworth bridge.......nuff sed !!!!!!!

Of course, no problem. I'm sure your company is a commercial venture just like National Boat Shows Ltd

To clarify, I authorised this post for several reason.

Firstly National Boat Shows is owned by the British Marine Federation, a federation that IPC is a member of across it entire marine portfolio which includes several B2B titles.

London and Southampton fund the federation across so many levels (too many to list here) and its in all of our interest's to make both shows a success.

To add IPC is a media partner to some of the attractions and has a duty to its readers and advertisers to do what it cant to make their presence a success.

There is no question that London is not in the best of shape and over the past few years the organisers have listened to the visitors (fact but we can argue this till the cows come home) and transport from the South Coast has always been an issues and this is one initiative that came up time and time again, so they are delivering on it.

As for 2013 well for once I hope I am NOT on the ski slopes early Jan...

Richard, my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek. Of course we all have an interest in ensuring LIBS prospers and anything that can be done to enhance the show is in the interest of all UK boaters

Dont worry I got that! but it is a valid point as to why we are endorsing a commercial organisation and perhaps I should make it clear why I was allowing such thread.

Cheers

And there's the flaw. Many people who can afford boats on the South Coast need well paid jobs in/around London to pay for their habit. Which means they generally live in nice areas nowhere near Excel (Blackheath excepted of course) and therefore have to use the **** public transport to get to it.

PS. Apologies to any other nice areas near Excel, but I would bet the majority of boaters live to the west of central London.

Typical....they live to the west of London and assume the whole world or the bit that matters to them does also.
Awful lot of boaters North and East of London.....some of which make it to "your " boat show in Southampton hundreds of miles away from most of the country and do it without whining.
There are those of us who like the London show and the access and the fact it is in our capital and are slightly pissed off with the constant moaning.
Obviously with a reccesion upon us and black economic clouds blowing over from Europe it is unlikely that sales records will be broken at LIBS however
I suspect the British marine industry will not be much worse off if the knockers stay away and let the people who do like the show get on with it.

live on outskirts of Woking so can get to Waterloo 22 minutes, Waterloo to Custom house excel about 25 minutes... so easy ..... you gotta be kidding....!! tubes so over crowded, especially if you spend the day at LIBS and leave around 5.30... get to Canary Wharf and the tube is sooo full you cannot move, then every stop thereafter more people get on... so we will be driving

I shall be suffering the train and tube in the week (I do the train daily anyhow) and I will be driving over the weekend as its far easier than the train but that is the problem of our great country not of National Boat Shows, if it were Earls Court I would also be driving!

No disrespect intended to NBS but they chose Excel as a venue knowing full well that the location was less than ideal and the transport infrastructure to get visitors there was poor. Why is anyone surprised that visitor and exhibitor numbers are falling?

Trouble is Mike EC was simply not a viable venue any more, boats too big, not enough room, ageing venue etc which is one of the reasons its for the chop....ok the land its on then.....

I did the first "return" boat show to EC a few years back and I can honestly say hand on heart the only people there were the Blue Blazer Brigade who had long since sold their boat and could barley walk ten paces....

Anyhow we will know one way or another on the 16th of Jan as to whether it was a success or not.

As for Düsseldorf, i work very closely with the organisers there and I can tell you they are (sorry) in the same boat, its bigger but not all boating related (marine yes) and you will only find a selection of craft from the UK boys there not the full range.

As for Sail, yes it wins hands down I am afraid BUT there are still an awful lot of European yards NOT attending Düsseldorf this year.

Anyhow I shall be at both, at LBS each and every day and Düsseldorf from Wednesday so anyone that's wants to come and say hi, please do.

I go into ExCel on Thursday.....as in this one
