Just been sent a email from Ancasta on deals on Lagoon Cats...

http://www.ancasta.com/ViewEmail.aspx?StoryId=748.

but as an added bonus, Ancasta have secured half price annual berthing (mono hull rates) in any UK Premier or MDL Marina.

So the question is.... Has MDL and Premier done deals with Ancasta... or will Ancasta just pay the balance... I would be interested to find out if it is the former...as both always say the don't do deals...

Its a cartel.

They know that if they all stand firm they will get the rates. Otherwise there are going to be some very big boats on peoples drive ways

Not necessarily, it looks like boats are moving to areas with lower rates. \how else do you explain the south coast spaces?

Interestingly, given how empty the marinas are at the moment, has anyone just thought of making an offer to their marina for renewal this year, rather than just paying what the marina asks?

I tried for some discount last year, before i moved, no chance. Since i moved they have introduced an offer of £400 to any berth holder who introduced a friend. Bizarre.

I did and I negotiated a 30% reduction on last year. Okay, I forfeited my free visitor nights, which I never use.

Hi James,

My guess would be that they are offering a berth to the new boat owner in the hope that they stay next season??

I don't think this situation of empty berths and no discounts can continue. I saw for myself on Tuesday how many slots are free at the moment at Mercury. I know swanwick have been offering deals and a friend in the trade tells me that swanwick is rammed at the moment although I've not been myself so can't verify.

I think it's only a matter of time before MDL will follow suit unless they are seriously cash rich and are willing to take the hit on turn over for however long these tough times continue.

Just my 10p's worth.

When are you go back in the water??

I guess they are making the offer as maybe the worry about berthing the Cat is putting people off ?
Cant see how it helps Premier or MDL to reduce their prices- there are not more boats to fill the gaps. Meantime they offer perks that dont cost them anything.. free wifi, free nights etc.
No point in a race to the bottom, it would just reduce their income.

Hi Paul

Next year, prior to re-newel I will be speaking to the nice people at Swanwick to see if anything is on offer. But as I have said many times I have a long association with Mercury so would be very sad to leave... just depends how business does this year...

When I spoke to the team at Mercury they did say they would like to see introduced some sort of loyalty discount for people who have been with them a while and they are hoping MDL head office listens to their suggestion, but I am not holding my breath!

We are back in the water on 22nd March, can't wait! :):)

V. jealous of SteveD being at Mercury as we speak..

Interesting...ours is up for renewal about now so we'll try. I'll let you know how we get on.

Half-price isn't always half-price.

Bit like the 50% discount on DFS sofas. Who ever paid full price?

Monohull rates are available for multihullers. Not everywhere, but certainly in many berths that have no width restriction such as linear berths. Also we seem to get a better response from marinas that have an inclusive attitude towards their range of likely customers, accepting that boats come in many different shapes and sizes these days, and it's marina design that hasn't kept up with the recreational boat market that is often the problem.

I imagine that since Ancasta operate from most Premiere and MDL marinas, they rightfully have more pull than any of us trying to negotiate a discount on a single berth. And Premiere and MDL hope to get a long term customer from the deal. Even if not, at least they fill an empty berth for a year and have the email address of a boat owner for future marketing.

Cheers

Garold

Shameless plug on my behalf but I have a berth at Hamble point marina that I would let at a really really good discount, includes all the outlook benefits and is in a great location.
