Germans deliberatly smash yacht in to all sorts of stuff

Have you been watching Time Team again, Dylan? Ancient history (and it is a Dehler, not a Bavaria).

but to me all 30 foot lozenges look the same

D
That was the point of the "test" - not just to show off Dehlers but to counter criticism that "modern" style boats were lightly built. Other brands of boats at the time would have performed in the same way, but Dehler got there first. Interestingly don't think other builders followed the lead, perhaps as once one has proved the point it just becomes a p*****g game.

I'd not seen it before. I'm very impressed. Mind you I was tempted by their 25 foot "trailer" sailor in the 80's. It was a fine solidly built boat. I wish i could speak German and understand the commentry.

Theres a benjenbav in a preveza yard with a half metre wide band of rebuilt hull around the entire keel area, looks like the entire centre of the hull has been rebuilt. I was talking to a chap who said they had hit a rock at about 3 knots and it had all but ripped the keel out of the boat. Apparently they had hit, started taking on water, radioed the yard to get the lift out and just made the 1/2 mile or so before she went down!

Took some phone photos but thanks to a **** brand new HTC phone they did not come out.
